2016 A to Z Challenge: Y is for Yin and Yang

2016AtoZDay25

Automatically, when I think of yin and yang, I think of opposing forces: light and dark, masculine and feminine, good and evil. After reading Wikipedia, I learned that it’s not just about opposing forces, but how the two are intertwined to create balance. Like wherever there is light, there will always be a shadow. Or, no one is born being completely good or evil. Or, there can’t be success without failure.

I think the same can be said about writing. The idea of success and failure certainly applies. Being successful off the bat is a rarity. Everyone experiences failure in some fashion. In addition, there’s a balance in the writing process. For example, no first draft is perfect. There has to be revisions and “killing of darlings.”

The concept of yin and yang is fascinating. The idea that one cannot exist without the other is amazing. It governs everything we do and everything we are. It’s about balance, and the writing world is no exception.

What do you think? How do you achieve balance in your writing?
